Your Adopt-A- Horse Sponsorship is a unique opportunity to make a difference by directly helping one of our horses. Your generous donation will help provide for food, board, medical treatment, training and other costs that are directly associated with the care of your sponsored horse.
Maintaining and caring for our horses is a very time consuming and costly endeavor.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO ADOPT-A-HORSE?
Your Adopt-A-Horse Sponsorship makes it financially possible for us to provide for our D-Bar-A horses by keeping them safe, providing a long, healthy life and delivering a once in a lifetime experience for our guests. Sponsors make a generous contribution to assist with the care of a specific horse they personally select. These donations go directly toward the expenses for that animal. Sponsorships put a financial dent in the care and feed costs for each horse. Our goal is to secure a sponsor for each of our very special D-Bar-A horses!
This trim brown man is famous for his D-bar-A Twitter page. The staff know him for his limited sight on his left side.
His large size can seem intimidating, but his calm demeanor makes him a favorite of all ages. He wins over hearts with his two different colored eyes and light brown spots on his white fur.
While she has always had some greys in her coat she still keeps up with the young ones. Even with being picky about her friends, once at work she is a lovable girl with the smoothest ride on camp.
For being a middle aged, he certainly doesn’t know it yet. Everything is fun and exciting, there is no such thing as too much work. He only needs a gentle hand to get moving and do what is asked.
Her marble eyes, spots and long body make give her a unique look that makes her easy to separate from the others. While she is timid of new things, she is willing with a confident rider.
Chip loves to eat and take the easy way in life. Any amount of hay is not enough! Chip’s been caught multiple times laying in a pile of hay sleep-eating. Typically found doing corral rides or the first lessons of merit badge.
This sassy mixed breed is a spirit horse who loves to please. Her tan coat and thick black hair give her a beautiful look, even from afar.
Cody is our Ranch puppy dog! Caution: he steals hearts. He’s the youngest member of the herd, but found his label of Beta Gelding. He’s as smart and calming as he is sweet and playful- with a therapeutic background.
Cookie has been at camp for a long time and is often requested by returning riders. While she is short, she doesn’t let that slow her down. Her black and white fur and multicolored eyes make her a memorable ride for everyone.
While she is older than most of the camp horses, she still puts in a hard day’s work every day. She can go out on all the rides at camp and starts each trail as if it is the first one of the day. She is calm and loves to experience the different riders that come through.
Don’t let his grey hairs fool you. While he is one of the older horses at camp, he still works 5 days a week and loves all the attention from people of all ages.
Dixie looks like a twin to another camp horse, Mikey, but they are not the same. Dixie is a protective horse who prefers only one rider and the staff favor her when she comes in for rides.
She is a well-built horse with brown fur, a white blaze and a strong spirit. While she has not been at camp long, she has already made a positive impression on the staff and will be working with staff only over the next few years.
Jetta and Cookie often get confused for each other. Both are black and white with brown and blue eyes. Jetta is a little taller and younger than Cookie. She will work hard every day of the summer and not tire. While she has the endurance to work hard every day, she is calm enough to be ridden by the younger participants that come to camp.
He is a compact, unregistered mustang, with tan and white fur. Like the wild mustangs, he can be a lot of horse for his smaller size. The staff enjoy working with him and teaching him new things and keeping him in a steady routine.
While he is technically a paint, he does not look it with his all-red fur. He has been at camp since he was 3 and has grown into a thick boy who still has a lot of energy. While he knows the job, his young age still shows through, making him a fun ride for experienced riders.
This sweet girl loves the Cub and Webelos Scouts that come to camp to ride. Her black and white fur draws everyone attention and her calm manners maker her desirable to ride again.
Everyone needs a white pony in their lives. While Ranger is not a pony his calm friendly manner is sure to win over even the most hesitant individual.
The only horse at camp that is brown and white all over. His long hair makes him look like he always has dreadlocks and braids. The same staff member has been riding him for many years and makes him perfect for riders who are a bit nervous around horses.
Her height and dark fur give her a striking look from afar. Before camp she was a cart racer and was a staff-only horse for a long time. However, with the years she has become a go-to participant horse on trail rides and one of the most used horses on the camp.
This gorgeous black beauty stands at 17 hands at the withers, is twenty years old, and is as gentle as she is a giant. Her amazing calming demeanor is what truly makes you fall in love with her.

Our uniquely qualified staff at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch offer several programs for youth members across Michigan. Youth learn how to care and ride horses, as well as learn about life on a working ranch!
Our future hope for the D-Bar-A Horse Program is to create greater access to youth groups across Michigan to benefit from our services.
