Dear Michigan Scouts,

“With stores often far away or completely unavailable, mail was by far the biggest morale booster that we received. It reminded both myself and my soldiers that although we were on the other side of the world, there were still people back home thinking of us.”     -Lt. DF

This is one of the dozens of email responses we received in the past few years after shipping more than 600 care packages around the world to U.S. deployed Troops from all US Military Branches – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, and Coast Guard. West Point Parents Club of Michigan’s annual Holiday Care Package event began in 2008 with 100 packages.

Over the last 16 years, it has grown significantly and we have now mailed more than 6000 packages to troops of every branch and rank to demonstrate support for our courageous servicemen and women. We expect to surpass 9,000 stockings and gift bags shipped to soldiers, sailors and airmen stationed overseas during the holidays.

It is expected that more than 160,000 U.S. troops will be deployed over the 2023 holidays and unable to return home to friends or family. Would your Scout units be interested in a holiday project? Most of all, we would like to include a handwritten note in each package. Would your Scouts or Scouting unit be willing to write short notes that could be included in the care packages to encourage a soldier who won’t be coming home for the holidays?

All letters and donations need to be received by October 31.
