Purpose of this award:

To create a Council level recognition to encourage and honor Eagle Scouts who continue to serve the Boy Scouts of America as a volunteer leader in Unit, District, and Council roles.  To champion our local “Hometown Scouting Heroes” as they continue to honor their Eagle Scout Promise.

The Eagle Scout nominee must have served the Scouting Movement as an adult leader for a minimum of fifteen years since earning their Eagle Scout Award.

Background of the award:

The Boy Scouts of America currently offers, through the National Eagle Scout Association, two Council nominated – – National Council approved – – adult Eagle Scout recognitions:  the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA) and the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA).  Both recognitions are extremely limited in the number that can be presented annually by the Council. At the same time, each of these awards expects an extremely high level of Council, Scouting, and community leadership – further limiting the number of nominees meeting the qualifications.

Process for award nomination:

District Key Three’s, chairs of Council Committees, and the Council/Division Commissioners are asked to nominate to the Michigan Crossroads Council/Division Key Three’s a maximum of TWO outstanding adult Eagle Scouts for this award.  The Scout Executive (or their designee) will ensure the qualifications of those nominated.  The Council/Division Key Three will advise the District Key Three or Council nominating individuals of those selected and approved to be recognized with the Council Honored Eagle Scout Award.  Currently, Council/Division Key Three leadership has approved the annual presentation of fifteen (or less) of these awards.

Presentation of the award:

Presentation of this award will first take place at an approved Council event (Mackinac Rendezvous, Recognition Dinner, Council Training Course), or other Council event as approved by the Council/Division Key Three.  This award must be presented, on behalf of the Michigan Crossroads Council, by specifically designated and Council/Division Key Three approved leadership.

Sponsorship:
The Michigan Crossroads Council HONORED EAGLE SCOUT AWARD recognition is provided by the Frances J and Michael D Sulgrove Leadership Trust, which promotes Scouting youth to choose lives of continued leadership and service to tomorrow’s youth as adult leaders.

Verification:
Dates and eligibility for the award will be validated.
