Running Waters District Distinguished Citizens Dinner

Scouting in Monroe County and the Community of Flat Rock is served by the Running Waters District. The district consists of 435 youth members in 34 Units. The youth in these units have earned over 1,160 merit badges, given back over 4,483 hours of community service, and had 25 Scouts earn the rank of Eagle as well as
36 months of continuous membership growth.
This Years Honoree
This years Distinguished Citizen is Angelo Tsipis. Angelo emigrated from Greece in 1977 at the age of 17. Born in a small village in the mountains, he arrived in Michigan in search of the American dream. Upon his arrival Angelo did not speak any English, however he did not let that deter him. He started working for his uncle at the Monroe staple, Colonial House, which ignited his culinary journey. There he would meet his future wife, Traci, and they would go on to have two sons, Nikolas and Alex. Angelo honed his culinary skills throughout his time at the Colonial and continued to do so when he started working at Joe’s French Italian in 1983. He became head chef at Joe’s and eventually a partner in the ownership, until parting ways in 1999. With hard work and dedication, he would go on to open his own restaurant in 2000, Angelo’s Northwood Villa. Both of his sons grew up working in the family business and in 2019 Angelo would go on to open another restaurant with his eldest son Nikolas, Angelo’s Chop House.
Angelo’s hobbies include cooking, fishing, cigars, and entertaining his friends and family. He loves cooking not only for himself, but for others. Public or private events, hosting or not, Angelo finds his way to the kitchen and draws satisfaction from the joy he brings to others with his culinary skills. His generosity is substantial not only to his friends and loved ones, but also to strangers and those in need. Although Angelo has always kept a low profile and tends to avoid the spotlight, he is very honored to be considered for this award.
